2017 ISSO Annual Gathering

March 10-12, 2017

ROGER PHILPOT is an internationally renowned side saddle instructor based at Pittern Hill Stables, Warwickshire, UK. He has produced numerous UK champions and has taught around the globe.

GAIL DiSCIPIO of Connecticut was introduced to the elegant art of side-saddle at Porlock Vale Equestrian Center, Somerset, England, where she earned her certificate from the British Horse Society. Gail emphasizes the side-saddle's use as an equipment option for the contemporary equestrienne, a tool that when correctly used can enhance a rider's skills and accomplishments. Her students can be found showing, hunting, pacing, competing in dressage, and riding aside for pleasure.

SUE TOBIN Sidesaddle Technician
Hailing from Connecticut, Sue Tobin pioneered the position of Sidesaddle Technician, which includes the selection, fitting, and adaptation of sidesaddles for a successful horse and rider team. As an active sidesaddle rider for over 25 years, she is in a unique position to understand the relationship of saddle fit to skill level.

LAUREEN BARTFIELD DVM cVSMT (Equine Microchipping, Saturday)
Dr. Bartfield is a veterinarian who has had horses since she was old enough to ride, and who has been riding aside for almost 15 years. While continuing to run a non-profit spay neuter clinic started in 2000 (and successfully sterilizing 110,000 cats and dogs to date), Dr. Bartfield has taken a keen interest in sport horse medicine -particularly chiropractic and body work. She studied chiropractic at Healing Oasis Wellness Center, and is a member of the College of Animal Chiropractors. Already certified in Veterinary Spinal Manipulation Therapy (animal chiropractic), Dr. Bartfield is studying acupuncture as well.

EMMI HOLMES (Yoga for Equestrians, Saturday)
The benefits of yoga can be found on many levels, including relaxation, flexibility, strengthening, learning to meditate, and "an ability to be present in the moment." Emmi finds it inspiring and gratifying when students begin to notice a small difference in their ability to get through life's daily challenges using the breathing techniques and poses she teaches. She returns by popular request after her very popular session at last year's Gathering.
